U.K. GMDSS-
First we have
Theory written examination in which
45 marks for Solas and 15 for
Technical theory.
Total
Marks 60 and the pass mark is 45.
Then
Commercial Log keeping in which very minor changes In R/T log
keeping.
Then you have
OPT i.e. Operational practical Test in which you will be
examined
in all
equipments.
Full Practicals. In this
like DSC distress exercise, Navtex entering station ID and Message
types you should do correctly
if not doing certain exercises
correctly you
will
be failed. Like that
we have abt
40 exercises in that some exercises you must do correctly
some
other exercises like selecting R/T
frequency for a general call will carry
some marks for that you will not be failed if you do wrong, only marks will be less.
If
you fail in one of the above parts, You can appear within a week’s time paying
Rs
8500 for the failed part only. Or can
appear up to one month.
Part
I Solas
Theory and Radio/Technical Theory
Normally 5 sets of questions will be given for home
work, If the candidate is thorough with that five sets of questions papers he can easily pass the written paper. Only names of the ship will change in the exams
otherwise the situation will be same out of these 5 question papers. Total pass marks to pass is 45 out of 60.
In log keeping,
We
can tell only the call signs of the examiner and the student. Only position of the examiner ship is missed
then the candidate is failed.
Otherwise only less marks for each step.
Like
any phonetics missing – 2 marks, If on
watch not written - 2 marks .
Otherwise
normally log keeping is easier when compared to
Indian Log.
Third
part the candidate is expected to
do certain exercises like
- Dsc distress alerts, Dsc
distress alert relay, Dsc
Urgency alert, Dsc Safety alert,
- Entering Navtex station ID and Message types, Selcting
Sat C correct ocean region as per
Navarea, Distress alerts on all
Satellite equipments, These are
called gray area question in which there is no less marks. If not doing correctly even you do the other exercises correctly
you will be Failed. Safety equipments
operation too
- Other exercises like routine call setting up etc you will loose mark but you will not fail if not
- Doing correctly.
